Dark Skies

Dark Skies are important for many reasons. The exterior lighting you choose (or avoid) can help you and our community in the following ways, without sacrificing safety.

The Washoe County Board of County Commissioners has adopted dark skies as a priority for the County. Our Planning and Permitting divisions are still developing materials and guidance. If you’re interested in getting ahead of the curve, here are some best practices that can help you:

Five Principles of Dark Skies

Keep your outdoor lighting no warmer than 3000k as seen below
